It's time to spring clean your finances... AND your closet!

Come to The Financial Gym for our Clothing Swap with @HowtoBeBrokeInNewYork to get a new wardrobe for free!

Clothing swaps are a sustainable and affordable way to revitalize your closet with new (to you) items. Any unwanted items at the end of the night will be donated to a local women's shelter.

Items accepted: clothes, shoes and bags.

We will also be serving a pizza dinner thanks to our friends at Slice.

Julianne Simson, creator of @HowToBeBrokeInNewYork, moved to New York in 2016 to work on a major presidential race. When that candidate lost, she was left unemployed and with dwindling savings. The online persona of the rich and famous lifestyle of New York was not what she was experiencing in real time. This turn of events pushed her to find all the fun free happenings in New York in order to stay sane. Once she finally got back on her feet, this budget-conscious lifestyle stuck, and after much push from friends, @HowToBeBrokeInNewYork was born. The platform, mostly on Instagram, has been used to inform followers of important local issues and current events - like explaining the implications of the cancellation of our subway line's construction project - as well as motivating and encouraging voter engagement - partnering with local brands and offering giveaways to those that shared a selfie with their "I Voted" stickers. Julianne is a partner of the Financial Gym, and as a client, has been working to save up for a major lifestyle change: quitting her job to attend Cardozo Law School this fall. It is important to Julianne to make her Instagram a place where people can find resources to be happy, well-rounded, and financially "fit," even while not a part of New York's 1%.
